Deskside (Field) Technical Support Specialist

We are looking for a Full Time Contractor Technical Support Specialist that will assist staff with their IT needs at Silent-Aire Manufacturing (https://www.silent-aire.com). The ideal candidate will also have great troubleshooting abilities and attention to detail. This job is on-site in Edmonton/Nisku. You need to have your own vehicle and be prepared to drive to various office/warehouse locations as required.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers, etc.).
  • Check computer hardware (HDD, mouses, keyboards, etc.) to ensure functionality.
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications.
  • Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance.
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems.
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment.
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work.
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging, etc.).
  • Network cabling installs.
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule.
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS).
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security configurations.
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
  • Provide Level 0/1 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.

Requirements Include:
  • Proven experience as IT Support Specialist or relevant position.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication ability.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
  • In-depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks.
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles.
  • Understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
  • Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model.
  • Degree, Diploma, or Certifications in the relevant fields preferred.
  • Your own vehicle.
